San Francisco!! A quick trip to the West Coast to visit family has started off simply great. After a long flight we all crashed for a solid 8 hours to rest up for a day on Alcatraz Island!
First, it was a bowl of energy for me to get me going – Go Lean Crunch cereal with nuts and dried blueberries. Delish!!
Then we were off to Alcatraz! It was great to be down on the waterfront today. The Blue Angels were overhead practicing – exciting! And our time on Alcatraz was so cool. Our tour, complete with a headset with the voices of former wardens, guards, and inmates guiding our way, took us through D block, the dining hall, solitary confinement, and even the recreation area. The descriptions of life on Alcatraz, the famous residents, and escape attempts were captivating.
By dinner, we were exhausted and happy to be back at the house. After a day of snacks we were ready for a real meal! We started with an appetizer of fresh bread and melted cambozola cheese – a little bleu-sy and a little buttery, it was such a yummy treat!
I also tried something new (to me, anyway)…sugar plum tomatoes. These sweet little gems, no bigger than a cashew, were more like jelly beans than tomatoes — so sweet and delicious! I’ll be hunting these down when we get home.
We finally sat down to burgers and a gorgeous salad with avocado, pecans, and dried blueberries.
I am so full of good food – my head can’t wait to hit the pillow!
This is my first attempt blogging right from my phone – if the results are OK there will be more to come tomorrow! We’ll be heading to Monterey to visit the most beautiful aquarium in the world. Good night from California
